The man labelled by Villa fans as 'The Polish Cafu' is being viewed as one of the players likely to leave the club as Villa attempt to raise much needed funds.
It was initially reported that AC Milan had a strong interest in the Polish right-back and even made a bid a couple of weeks ago, according to the UTV Podcast. However, Aston Villa have placed a £30 million price tag on the player and that has resulted in the interest fading slightly since. AC Milan like the player but are unwilling to meet that valuation at present.
Reports over the last few days have suggested that fellow Italian giants Inter have entered the discussions to sign Cash. According to FCInterNews, there is a potential swap deal being lined up between the two clubs that would see Cash head to Italy and Denzel Dumfries head to Villa Park. Dumfries has one more year on his current deal at the San Siro and it is unlikely that Inter will wish to extend the 28-year-old's contract. Therefore, the Dutch international will need to consider whether he wishes to look to the Premier League for a new challenge.
The Dutch defender would provide a huge level of experience in a Villa side competing in the modern day Champions League for the first time. With 30 appearances in the competition to his name as well as over 50 appearances for his national team, Dumfries would be an excellent acquisition for Unai Emery and his team.
It is looking more likely now that Inter are the favourites to sign Cash with AC's interest fading. AC Milan have also enquired about the situation of Tottenham defender Emerson Royal.
Matty Cash signed for Aston Villa for £14 million in September 2020 and has gone on to make 142 appearances for the club across all competitions. Cash was signed from Nottingham Forest having impressed in the Championship with his ability to play as a right defender and midfielder. Since playing in claret and blue, Cash has become a Polish international and played a crucial role in Aston Villa's transformation under Emery. However, many fans believe Cash's best days in the Villa shirt are behind him and most would be keen to see Villa get a deal done to upgrade the player next season.
With the PSR deadline approaching fast, I wouldn't be too surprised to see a deal completed in the next week.
