The early days of this summer transfer window saw Aston Villa being heavily linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. There was talk of Gallagher being on the verge of a £50 million move to Villa or even part of a swap deal that saw Jhon Duran head the other way.
However, after strong interest initially the rumours faded as Gallagher was reportedly not keen on a move to the Midlands club. Fast forward a few weeks and it has now been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano that Chelsea and Atletico Madrid are in direct talks that would see Gallagher move to Spain.
Gallagher is out of contract at Chelsea next summer and the London club are keen to move him on for a transfer fee this summer as there is no interest from them to extend the England internationals current deal.
Aston Villa decided in the end to sign Amadou Onana from Everton for a fee of £50 million which well and truly put an end to the thought of any efforts to sign Gallagher this summer.
