Aston Villa and Wolves tried to hijack Tottenham Hotspur's signing of Lucas Bergvall from Djugardens, according to a report by Fotboll Direkt.

Spurs ended up winning the race for the 18-year-old and he will officially link up with Ange Postecoglou's side in the summer.

Bergvall, who is a Sweden international with one cap under his belt so far in his career, is being tipped for a bright future in the game and was also linked with Barcelona in the January transfer window.

Aston Villa could have seen him as someone to bolster their options in the middle of the park down the line. However, they will have to look elsewhere for other players in his position.

Bergvall started his career at IF Brommapojkarna and rose up through their academy. He was a regular for them at various youth levels before going on to play 13 games for their first-team in all competitions, chipping in with a single goal.

Djugardens snapped him up in December 2022 and he has since established himself in their starting XI. He has played 29 times for the Allsvenskan outfit to date, finding the net on three occasions.

His brother, Theo, also plays for Djugardens as a defender.

He will remain with them until the end of this campaign before officially heading over to England. The prospect has penned a five-year deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, despite this fresh claim that Aston Villa were interested in making a swoop for his signature along with Midlands rivals Wolves.
