Aston Villa-linked Gio Reyna is in talks with fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest over a potential loan switch from Borussia Dortmund, as per a report by The Athletic.

Unai Emery's side have been credited with an interest in the Bundesliga man this winter by Football Transfers. However, in this latest update regarding his situation this month, he is now in discussions over a switch to the City Ground before the end of the transfer window.

Reyna, 21, has been on the books at Dortmund since 2019 after they snapped him up as a youngster from New York City.

He has since made 120 appearances in all competitions for the German giants and has found the net on 17 occasions.

However, the USA international has struggled to make an impact this season and hasn't scored in 13 gmaes, hence why Nottingham Forest are now trying to lure him away to England to bolster their squad under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Despite the transfer rumour last week, it remains to be seen if Aston Villa's reported interest in concrete. There is no doubt that the Midlands outfit could do with some more competition and depth in attacking areas ahead of the rest of this term.

Reyna would be a useful player to have in and around the squad but he probably wouldn't be guaranteed a starting position at Villa Park.

Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, are more likely to be able to offer him regular game time as they look to stay up in the top flight and avoid slipping back into the Championship.
