It is understood that Belgian international Amadou Onana is due to undergo his Aston Villa medical on Sunday ahead of signing the contract and joining the club officially on Monday.

It has been reported however that Manchester United this week had made a late move to hijack the deal and convince him to move to Old Trafford rather than Villa Park. Thankfully for Aston Villa fans the late move by the Red Devils has not been enough to change the players mind and he will be playing in claret and blue next season.

With the different situations the two clubs currently find themselves in a move to Aston Villa will be perceived by many to be the much better move. Villa are playing Champions League football next year and have one of the world's best coaches in Unai Emery and a board that is injecting money into the club to go to the next level. In comparison, Manchester United finished 8th in the Premier League last season and under manager Erik Ten Hag the team's results and performances have been poor in the last 18 months. Whilst there is a lot of unresolved issues at board level.

Onana will join the club for a club record fee in the region of £50 million and is likely to resolve a lot of the defensive issues that Villa had last season.

Watch out for an official announcement on Monday morning!
