Aston Villa ready to hijack Ipswich Town transfer
It has been reported that Hull City winger Jaden Philogene is on the move to Ipswich Town. According to David Ornstein, The Athletic, Ipswich have an £18 million deal agreed with the Tigers with a five year contract ready in waiting to be signed by the player.
As it stands, the player is reportedly keen on the move to Ipswich and a medical is likely to be booked for the end of the week. However, there could be a twist in the saga. Aston Villa are seemingly ready to activate a matching offer clause to re-sign the Philogene after he left Villa for Hull back in September of last year.
Philogene enjoyed a fantastic season scoring 12 goals and providing 6 assists in 32 Championship appearances. Prior to this season, Pihlogene also enjoyed a successful loan spell at Cardiff City where he quickly became a fan favourite before a very successful pre-season tour with Aston Villa. Following several exciting performances for Villa on their pre-season tour of America last summer it was thought that Philogene would be part of Unai Emery's plans in the new season. However, that wasn't the case and Philogene chose to leave the club in order to play regular football elsewhere.
The 22-year-old left Villa for a fee of £5 million but with a clause inserted in that contract. That clause being that Villa would have the right to make a matching offer with any club that decides they wish to buy the player and therefore have the final word on the deal. However, Villa have to also accept that it will be the player's decision where he ends up but Villa are reportedly keen to offer Philogene the opportunity to return to Villa Park and play a bigger role than he would have previously.
There could be many twists to this tail this week however as it has also been reported already, by BBC Sport, that Hull have also accepted an offer from Everton. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace and of course Villa are interested in making a deal happen.
We had previously reported at ClaretVillans that Barcelona were potentially interested in signing the Englishman but their initial interest has cooled as they wish to pursue a deal for Spain's Nico Williams.
