Aston Villa poised to sign Adelaide United goalkeeper

Aston Villa are poised to sign Adelaide United goalkeeper Joe Gauci, according to a report by FTBL.

The Australia international, who has three caps under his belt for his country to date, is set to move to England for a new chapter in his career.

Gauci has been playing for Adelaide since 2020 and has made the number one spot his own with the A-League side over the past three-and-a-half years.

Aston Villa could see him as someone to add more competition and depth to their goalkeeping department behind Emi Martinez. At the age of 23, he has the potential to grow and develop in the future.

The Adelaide-born man played for Waiheke United in New Zealand as a youngster before spells back in Australia with Cumberland United, SA NTC, West Torrens Birkalla, Central Coast Mariners, Adelaide City and Melbourne City.

Gauci then joined his boyhood club and hasn't looked back since. He has made 71 appearances for them in all competitions to date but is now heading out the exit door.

It is hard for Adelaide to stand in the way of him moving to Aston Villa and the stopper will be eager to show what he can do in the Premier League.

First-team opportunities in the league will be hard to come by for him at first and he will have to be patient. However, he has time on his side and will be pushing Martinez for top spot over the next few years, assuming the deal gets over the line.
