Aston Villa are interested in Borussia Dortmund defender Julian Ryerson along with fellow Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion ahead of the next transfer window, according to a report by Sky Germany.

Unai Emery is keen on luring the full-back to England this summer as he weighs up potential targets.

Ryerson, 26, only moved to Dortmund in January last year and has been a regular for them this season. He has made 44 appearances in all competitions for the German giants to date, 24 of which have come this season, and has scored four goals.

The Norway international has made 23 caps for his country to date and is under contract with his club until 2026.

Aston Villa could see him as someone to bolster their defensive department for the next campaign as they hope to be in the Champions League. He may also have been identified as potential competition for Matty Cash at right-back.

Ryerson started his career at Lyngdal IL and Viking in Norway and broke in the first-team of the latter as a youngster.

His emergence in the Eliteserien caught the attenion of Union Berlin and they swooped to sign him back in 2018.

He helped his former club gain promotion from the Bundesliga.2 during his first year in the German capital.

Ryerson became a key player for Union Berlin and helped them gain qualification to Europe during his time there. He played 108 matches before Dortmund managed to lure him away and he has carried on his form.
