Aston Villa have already seen Douglas Luiz leave the club this summer with a move to Juventus and several other players are rumoured to be likely to leave also. It has been reported this week already that Jhon Duran is close to a move to West Ham and now another player is close to leaving with a medical already booked in.

According to Glen Williams, reporter for Wales Online, Calum Chambers is close to a move to Championship club Cardiff City. He tweeted:

""Cardiff close to signing Calum Chambers from Villa. Almost 200 PL appearances over last decade. Medical booked in. Progressed quickly this week""

Chambers is a player that is massively appreciated by Unai Emery due to his professionalism and hard work but also a player that Villa have been trying to sell for a long time. Emery has previously spoken of his respect for the player as he was willing to stay and fight for his place in the team when a move away was close in previous transfer windows.

Now that the season has come to a close however it is in the best interest of both parties to complete a deal. Chambers has been lacking playing time for a long time now having played just 150 minutes worth of football in the Premier League last season.

Should the deal go through as expected over the next few days it will help Villa to open up a bit more leeway in terms of the wage budget. With Chambers being on around £50,000 a week it will be good for Villa to get his wages off the bill considering the little amount of football he plays for the team.

Chambers will leave Villa after two and a half years with the club having signed on a free transfer in January 2022. Chambers played 36 games for Villa in that time, scoring one memorable goal in the 3-0 win away at Leeds United in the Steven Gerrard era.
