It is clear that Juventus is actively looking to move on from Douglas Luiz. Aston Villa could be looking at the possibility of a reunion. There are several clubs interested in adding the Brazilian to their side. Villa potentially bringing Luiz for a second stint in B6 could face some difficulties.
Considering his history at the club, however, and recent expression of how much he enjoyed his time at Villa Park, it is somewhat safe to assume that Villa would have a slight upper hand.
If it weren't for PSR, Villa would never have sold Luiz. It was a move that was done to help balance the spreadsheet. In terms of the on-the-pitch aspects, it is unquestionable as to the place that he held while at the club.
There could be an argument as to leaving the past in the past and not potentially ruining what is, to this point, a time that all parties can reminisce about and appreciate. If Luiz were to return to the claret and blue, a possibility exists that his Villa part two appearance would not go according to plan.
That is the nature of the sport, though. Living in fear and making decisions from a place of wanting to avoid rather than to gain is not a good way to reach a conclusion. Luiz and Villa have a chance to complete a chapter that was prematurely cut off.
Worthy option for Aston Villa to explore
At only 27, he is actually only in the infancy of his prime. Add that his time at Juventus turned out to be less than ideal for the Brazilian, and the feeling of euphoria would likely help to propel the midfielder to a successful 2025-2026 season and beyond.
There could be an argument against bringing Luiz back due to the number of players that are already on the roster. Certainly, there is not a pressing need for Villa to add anyone. The squad is plenty good enough to be competitive this upcoming season.
Bring Luiz back, and Emery will figure out a way to keep everyone happy and able to produce results on the pitch.
