There is not too much room for optimism that Philippe Coutinho will be at Aston Villa for too much longer. The only remaining question that will need to be answered is how his ultimate transfer will unfold.
While Vasco da Gama appears to be the foregone conclusion of a stay for the Brazilian, there has not been anything concrete or definite decided as of yet. Coutinho's current deal at Villa does not expire until the summer of 2026. The current loan agreement with the Brasileiro Série A side only runs until the end of this month.
Logic dictates that Coutinho will be able to not only stay in Brazil through the end of the season but eventually as a permanent member of the squad. How that ends up coming to fruition exactly, however, remains up in the air.
Currently valued at around €4.50m, there does not seem to be too much that would prevent his boyhood club from acquiring the local talent again. By all means, Coutinho himself is not too likely to entertain any other options at this point.
Soon-to-be former Aston Villa player appears confident on agreement
The midfielder expressed his hope to soon put his future with both clubs and his current contract situation to rest soon. As shared by ESPN Brazil, Coutinho mentioned:
"People are talking, I think this week is a positive one to talk and decide everything."
For Villa, getting anything accomplished before the June 30 deadline can play a small part in helping the club in its efforts to stay under the mandated PSR amount. Even if it is for a lesser amount and 'only' around the current market value, it could prove the difference toward Villa's efforts in staying out of further financial trouble.
From Coutinho's perspective, he just wants the peace of mind of knowing where his career will continue. While everything points to his continued stay at Vasco da Gama, until something is signed, there is not anything preventing something that would be, to this point, unforeseen from occurring.
