Path for Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa to Manchester United is closed for now

For all of the speculation and scenarios that had Emiliano Martínez leaving Aston Villa, those can be put to rest. While there was likely a lot of interest from Saudi League teams, there is interest from teams in that league every year in practically all players, so that does not amount to much in terms of a meaningful update.

As shared by Kyama on X, Fabrizio Romano has made it clear that there are not currently any offers for the Aston Villa No. 1. The main target for a potential landing spot for 'Dibu' has consistently been reported as Manchester United.

The journalist dispelled the notion of the club actively looking to bring in a second keeper to bring in André Onana. Romano did affirm that they would be in the business of adding a new keeper in the event of someone else making a move for the Cameroon international.

Considering the season Onana has just had and the myriad of mistakes that are firmly in the minds of people from his latest performances, it is safe to say that there is not too much interest in the keeper from other clubs at the moment.

This update removes the main place that others had Martínez going from the list of options as things stand. Certainly that goalkeeping situation could change at United before the season begins. Barring the club being willing to part ways with Onana for a significant discount, Martínez going to Manchester is not happening.

Move from Aston Villa does not make sense

At this point there wouldn't be too many other situations where a club would want to bring in Martínez only to have the current capable starting option then fall away by the wayside. With this latest update from Romano, there just does not appear to be a path for 'Dibu' to conceivably go somewhere else this summer.

Up to this point, all of the reports and rumors that assured Villa fans of Martínez's departure have been overblown, unsourced wishful thoughts of opposing fan bases.
