It is amazing to see the level of bias at play that actively works against Aston Villa. For the longest time, worthy Villans deserved an England call-up, only to see some head-scratching choices make the final Three Lions roster instead.

When, however, given an actual fair chance, the Villa players have stepped up and displayed their class. Social media is currently abuzz about Ollie Watkins' goal against the Netherlands in the Euro 2024 semi-final match against England. His score provided the last needed touch in the 90th minute that propelled Gareth Southgate's side to a matchup against Spain for the trophy.

It is, of course, great to see Watkins continue to be recognized for his contribution. Hopefully this feat on the top European stage continues to live on in the memory of fans and be appreciated. That can be true while also admitting that Villa players often do not receive a fair shake and are forced to overperform to receive the same opportunities.

Now with Thomas Tuchel in charge, the German appears to be willing to do what he truly views as best for England. Morgan Rogers, Ezri Konsa, and Marcus Rashford all received a call-up at the same time while at Villa. Considering who the German ended up having to select for his striker roles, Watkins would have almost certainly been a part of Tuchel's plans if it weren't for his need to fully recover following the end of this past season.

Desired continued consideration for Aston Villa players

Under Tuchel, to the benefit of England, hopefully the German continues to display his more objective view of who to add to the Three Lions and continues to evaluate players without the preconceived bias against someone for being at one club or another if they are performing at a high level.

As was seen in a hugely critical moment in 2024, when the Villa players are given a fair shake, they are more than capable of producing.
