Nélson Semedo on a free transfer is something Aston Villa need to consider

There is a clear boldness that has been shown by Aston Villa. Unai Emery and Monchi are unafraid of making big moves and aim to stack as many areas of the roster as possible. While the 'starting 22' approach will likely not be as true this upcoming season, the principle remains.

On the left, Ian Maatsen and Lucas Digne split time at left-back. Either would be capable of being an unquestioned regular starter, but each defender has done well to stay sharp and remain ready for whenever the Villa boss calls on them to perform.

On the right, Matty Cash has the RB position solidified. Still, it is unrealistic to expect anyone to play the full 90 minutes for every match in a campaign. With the end of Axel Disasi's loan spell and likely confirmed move to a different club any moment now, Villa will need to find an addition to compete with Cash at right-back.

The only thing better than a cheap deal is a free deal. Long-time Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Nélson Semedo is currently a man without a home and would be available for Villa to pick up on a free transfer.

The Portuguese international would already come with the needed Premier League experience and would seemingly be the type of player that Emery and Monchi would be keen to bring to B6.

A lot to like about Aston Villa potentially adding RB

Semedo can often be seen marching up and down the right-hand side, causing issues for the opposition. His confidence on the ball and ability to provide that killer pass would endear him instantly to the Villa faithful. Add that he is a technically sound defender who often then serves as the starting point to push the ball forward going the other way, and there isn't too much not to like about the potential new addition.

Whether it ends up being Semedo or someone else, even though it has not been a particularly active summer for Villa to this point, expect the club to add at least one more outside back to the squad before the season begins.
