It has been known at Aston Villa what the risks were after being particularly active during the midyear transfer window. They, better than anyone, will have also realized how high their wage bill is. Any potential PSR aspects will not now suddenly come as a complete shock to Monchi or Unai Emery.
Perhaps a regular starter will still need to be sold. There remains a good chance as well that Villa will be able to stay within the margins and still make roster-bolstering moves. Particularly when looking at some of the players who have been out on loan, there is enough there at a minimum to make a dent in the financial gap, whatever it proves to end up being when it comes down to it.
Regardless of what transpires in terms of transfer market activity, the most critical component of the side will still be in B6.
If anything, Emery being forced to now deal with PSR and seeing the rest of the media so eager to purge players from his squad will only further embolden the Spaniard, if that was even possible.
There aren't too many who are more ambitious or driven than Emery in this sport. The thought of him now having an added chip on his shoulder can only help Villa as they look to do well during the upcoming campaign and once again qualify for Champions League.
High expectations maintained at Aston Villa
It is certainly too bad that goals can no longer be properly celebrated until after the conclusion of a lengthy VAR check and that fans have to now become part-time accountants during the summer to understand club activities.
Despite the changes, the type of personality and approach from the Villa boss will prove to be a winning formula. Between those who are under contract through the summer and the additions who will be joining the squad before the season begins, there should be a lot of room for optimism as to how well this Villa team will do in 2025-2026.
