Any time anyone steps foot on the pitch, there is a chance of an injury occurring. Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers sustained an ankle injury during the friendly against AS Roma on Wednesday.
For a side that is looking to pave forward and continue to cause havoc in the Premier League, missing out on someone with the quality of Rogers for too long would come as a serious hindrance for Villa.
As shared on X, however, by The Athletic's Jacob Tanswell, Rogers is not expected to miss too much time and is still in a great position to suit up when Villa begin the season against Newcastle United.
This is a significant setback in terms of the injury not allowing Rogers to be able to continue preparing with the team for the upcoming season. The extent, though, appears to be one that will not have any significant long-term implications.
With that in mind, it appears, based on the report, that Villa will exercise caution and allow for the midfielder to rest and give the ankle a chance to heal, rather than forcing the issue and potentially aggravating what appears for now to be a minor setback for the time being.
Giving time for Aston Villa midfielder to heal
Far from ideal, obviously, it is better for the midfielder to nurse his ankle now and get as close to 100% as possible rather than during the season itself.
It is unfortunate for Rogers in terms of how Villa have been playing. Finding more of their form against AS Roma, something like this will mess with the current chemistry and rotation a bit. Because of Rogers' experience in the system and his proven accolades as a Villa player, though, once he is able to return, it is safe to assume that Rogers will be able to easily hit the ground running once again, proving to continue to be an important part of Unai Emery's plans in B6.
