Mischaracterization of Aston Villa GK situation continues amidst Andriy Lunin rumors

Not sure what prevails in the minds of media members who do not regularly follow Aston Villa. It's reasonable enough to have a favorite club, even as a journalist, and maybe spend more time covering and paying attention to the actions of others throughout Europe.

That shouldn't, however, then give license to simply give an uninformed projection on Villa. For whatever reason, many reports are suggesting that the relationship between Emiliano Martínez and the club is in flux.

Even when discussing Real Madrid potentially giving up their reserve goalkeeper, Andriy Lunin, there is still a suggestion that the Argentinian's days in B6 are numbered for whatever reason.

Such a potential transfer, as reported by CaughtOffside, should dispel the notion once and for all that Martínez will soon need to pack his bags. By all accounts, and from what fans have seen with Madrid, Lunin is a promising talent. There isn't a scenario, barring injury, where the Ukrainian would surpass the Villa No. 1 on any roster.

For right now he is a backup when discussing the pecking order among the best at the position. There are certainly teams where Lunin would be the unquestioned starter. Villa would not be one of those situations.

Potential win-win situation for Aston Villa No. 2 position

The prospect of potentially learning under Martínez and leaving the Spanish capital could be in the works for the 26-year-old. It needs to be remembered that keeper is a position that ages gracefully, meaning there is an extended life span as a player and starting XI member.

It needs to also be remembered that 'Dibu' has been in a number of matches without any break from the action. While Robin Olsen was not able to see too much of the pitch, Unai Emery may elect to give next season's No. 2 more of a chance to play, just for the simple fact of looking to give Martínez some rest.

In any event, whether it's Joan García, Pierce Charles, or someone currently at AVFC, Martínez  will be the first choice for Emery for a couple more seasons, at least, to come.
