It is absolutely fine for teams to want Aston Villa keeper Emiliano Martínez. People, through many facets of life, can often have a sort of wish list. It can very quickly become a question of how realistic or how likely fulfilling items on a hypothetical list is when assessing what is being hoped for.
The latest report from ESPN Argentina's Leo Paradizo mentions how Martínez already "knows" of the intention of Manchester United to acquire him. Based on Paradizo's reporting, the Premier League side will move on from André Onana and will then have their sights firmly on the Villa keeper.
Again, from their perspective, it would be a move that would undoubtedly boost Ruben Amorim's side. That can also be akin to someone who has only ever ordered takeout wanting to win a Michelin Star.
Certainly something like that would be possible. It would, however, take quite a bit of doing and is far from becoming a reality barring enormous changes.
Villa has made their stance clear on how they view Martínez and how important it is for them to ensure that the Argentina international remains in B6. Many have seemingly forgotten that the Villa No. 1 is currently under contract with the club until 2029.
Not that the length of the current deal would prevent a different agreement from taking place, but it does show a lack of reason for Villa to even want to consider a move for Martínez at the moment. Yes, many will point to PSR as the reason why everyone and everything, from the players to the stair handles at Villa Park, needs to be sold.
Aston Villa stance has not changed
It is safe to assume that the lack of too much news from the club indicates a desire to work on something that would allow Villa to more or less keep most of the squad intact. If and when the club is forced to make an agreement due to PSR, Martínez would be one of the last resort options that Unai Emery and Monchi would be willing to explore.
There is not anything in this latest report that has not already been known. United want Martínez, and the keeper is aware. Villa playing their part to make that desire come to fruition remains highly improbable.
