It can be too easy to recommend suggested changes following a loss. In reality, there is not anyone more in tune with Aston Villa than Unai Emery. That is not to say that the Spaniard does not make mistakes. Anyone across all walks of life will make an error or two.

The manager and staff, however, are the ones who interact with the club operations on a daily basis. It is they who ultimately know the full extent of the pulse of the side at any given point better than anyone. That being said, a manager can also become pigeonholed into operating within a more narrow mindset than what is necessary.

One can, of course, fail to see the forest through the trees at times due to the nature of being so close to what is going on within a club.

Even so, any decisions that are made, even in these most extreme scenarios, are a result of privileged knowledge that the general person will be completely unaware of.

Task ahead for Aston Villa boss

At the end of the day, a manager has to put the side in the best position possible to compete throughout the entirety of a campaign across all competitions. This can mean varying things depending on whatever is going on in the dressing room at any point. More importantly, it is Emery who implements the game plan and approach throughout the week. It is, furthermore, he who sees how the players at the various positions compete and are able to execute during training sessions.

This is why it becomes a difficult task to assess what Villa or any club should do by only watching and forming an opinion from the matches. Whatever the case, Emery deserves a certain level of the benefit of the doubt despite how things have gone so far for Villa. If one sets aside some of the outside aspects and takes everything at face value, the situation may indeed look dire. The pieces are in place, though, in order for Villa to have renewed form on the pitch.
