John McGinn urges need to stay calm for Aston Villa

It is, of course, frustrating to see Aston Villa start the campaign on a similar note to last year. Supporters will hope to avoid seeing a repeat of last season, in which the side was forced to go on an unbeaten run just to remain in the Champions League picture.

Although Villa have only managed a point from two matches, John McGinn is asking for perspective.

The skipper acknowledged two aspects shared by Birmingham Live's John Townley. First, McGinn pointed out how the club is unable to reinforce the squad, unlike those in the 'big six' that are also pursuing a coveted CL spot. By the same token, there is still plenty of quality on this squad. It is a good enough roster that should not be seeing the matches play out the way they have been to start the campaign.

To this point, there has not been the carryover from the ending of the past season (minus the Manchester United match) or from some of the better preseason moments. Still, watching how the games have unfolded so far should make it so that there can be a strong degree of faith that the product will soon look noticeably better.

Room for optimism with Aston Villa

Unai Emery's side has not clicked yet, and it is expected that there will be some additions soon. In the event that the incoming transfers do not come to fruition, there is far from any reason to panic. This is mostly the same side that dominated against Newcastle United and won the home fixture against the European champions in PSG.

To this point, fortune has not exactly favored Villa. Pretty much anything that could have worked against the side has. Between those in the dressing room and circumstances naturally returning to the average set of conditions, the club will be able to see results soon enough.
