Jobe Bellingham fee should reset initial asking prices for Aston Villa players

Nothing against Jobe Bellingham, but it is lunacy to see him going from Sunderland to Borussia Dortmund for €33m when many Aston Villa players are reportedly in talks to leave for significantly less.

Among all of the posts and columns that have the likes of Morgan Rogers and Jacob Ramsey leaving for a considerable discount of their current market value, this latest transfer should further illustrate how much of a lowball offer others are suggesting for Villa this summer.

It is unknown what direction the club will be forced to go in the year. Regardless if it happens this year or next year, eventually Villa will be forced to sell someone that the fan base as a whole would rather not part ways with.

Most have made their peace with Leon Bailey and Ross Barkley finding a new home, for example. To discuss the potential of Ollie Watkins or Youri Tielemans leaving is always a possibility. Seeing how much Bellingham has been acquired has to reset the price that Villa would need to even begin to commence negotiation talks with.

This illustrates why the constant presence of Villa player names in transfer rumors is increasingly annoying. For whatever reason, there is a push to see Villans leave the club for a fraction of the price that the club would easily be able to receive in return for their departure.

Aston Villa is fortunately in capable hands

Fortunately, Villa having Monchi and Damian Vidagany in charge of that aspect of the club's business will hopefully continue to prevent wholesale moves from happening.

It is not a fun part to think about, particularly for players who have come to mean a lot and have had incredible moments at the club. If and when top players or emerging talents are forced to leave, for whatever reason, Villa deserves the chance to get the appropriate value in return. The latest Bellingham transfer should be the baseline in such instances.
