There was always a chance for Aston Villa to face the former academy product Jacob Ramsey during the first Premier League match of the season against Newcastle United. It would have been a strange aspect to see the midfielder not in claret and blue but on the pitch nonetheless, competing in a regulation match.
This will not play out, however, as is now known. Birmingham Live's John Townley shared on X that Ramsey is not going to feature in the Magpie's roster for the match at Villa Park. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe addressed the potential of the former Villa player potentially playing against his old club. Howe has instead alleviated any questions surrounding the question by dismissing the chance of this happening altogether.
It would have been an incredibly emotional scene, particularly if Ramsey had made the starting XI. Considering the time that the move to Newcastle happened, it was always going to be difficult for the midfielder to be ready to make the squad so soon after arriving at his new club.
What is next for former Aston Villa player
It remains to be seen what Ramsey's role will be at Newcastle. He will eventually come back to Villa Park as a member of the opposing squad. For now, his Magpie debut and first match back at Villa Park will be delayed.
When that moment does happen, there will certainly be a lot of emotion and outpouring one way or another when that day comes. This gives Ramsey the chance to further acclimate himself to his new team in the meantime and saves Ramsey from having a highly emotional debut with his club after only so suddenly switching clubs. While he may have not been ready anyway, the timing of this from Howe allows the midfielder to wait before needing to suit up as a Magpie.
