Of all of the potential moves that were available for Aston Villa to make, few if any could have predicted that it would be Jacob Ramsey who would leave the club. The writing may have indeed been on the wall when the Villa academy product did not sign the offered contract extension, as had been the case for some of his now-former teammates.
There could be any motivating factor that ultimately led to Ramsey deciding to want to join Newcastle United. It does have to be said that Villa did what they needed to on their end to ensure that he would remain in B6 for the immediate future.
Most likely, though, Ramsey simply wanted and needed a change. Yes, Villa is the club he grew up admiring and had the chance to play for. That alone is the dream of anyone growing up who plays the beautiful game.
For him now in his career, however, Ramsey must feel the need to further prove himself with the aim of solidifying a more permanent starting XI position for himself.
Unfortunately for Ramsey, unless there were a couple of significant injuries, that was not likely going to happen at Villa. Still, Unai Emery and the club did their best to support Ramsey and set him up to showcase his talent and abilities.
Final assist for Aston Villa
Now off to Newcastle; it will certainly be odd seeing him as a Magpie. It is hard to be too mad or disappointed, though. Ramsey did well during his time as a Villan. He will be able to pursue his further career ambitions, and Villa will have a little more operating room regarding PSR and SCR.
His goal of making the England squad for the 2026 World Cup, in his mind at least, is that much closer to happening with this move. From the perspective of Villa supporters, Ramsey gave it his all and showed what is possible for those who come from the academy. Farewell to the player as a great Villa representative.
