It is the time of year when accounts will shamelessly post anything for content engagement. There can be a fine line between speculation and even going a little further with a rumor versus outright making nonsense up.
As shared on X by Man Utd news, the post in question proposes (mind you, while saying it is an exclusive) that Manchester United have proposed a swap deal in which Ollie Watkins would go there and Alejandro Garnacho would come to Aston Villa.
There seems to be an increasing comfortability, particularly from the United-based accounts, to simply say anything that comes to mind, hoping to manifest a deal that would very much work against the favor of Villa.
To be clear, for the right price, Garnacho is someone that Villa should be looking at. With Premier League experience and a lot of potential, adding the Argentina international would be something that could provide some added depth in the attack, particularly for the long campaign to come.
That does not, however, mean that Villa have to blindly accept any proposal that comes their way.
Saying that bringing on Garnacho would be a positive is entirely possible while also pointing out how ludicrous it would be to send off Watkins in order to achieve that specific aim.
Why it would not make sense for Aston Villa
Watkins is not only a proven goal scorer, but he has also been playing at a high level in B6 under Unai Emery for a while at this point. The risk of introducing someone new in exchange for letting someone go that has an understanding within the claret and blue club and system is something that should not be entertained further.
For an account with over 4,000 followers, it is something to 'stay relevant' or earn impressions, or something of that nature. This, like all of the other rumors, will age poorly regarding the Villa players.
