It is impossible to question the talent of Jhon Durán. The Columbian was part of the Aston Villa PSR sell-off that was a result of financials rather than anything else. If the club had had its way, he would likely have remained in B6 up to this day. It must be noted, however, that Durán's personality can be a lot for some to handle. Ego can be a concern once players reach a certain level.

Even so, especially with how things are going now at Villa, it is hard to see anyone being able to get away with too much under Unai Emery that is out of line. Players will often complain or make their point of view known. That's normal. Crossing the line and entering into being a distraction or disrespectful, however, is too far.

It appears that this is what has led Durán to no longer be an option in the Saudi League. Al Nassr, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on X, will not be moving forward with him. There has been something of a dramatic unfolding between the player and the Saudi-based club. For a while now, the pair splitting has appeared inevitable.

The same post on X also mentioned that Fenerbahçe is in the driver's seat to acquire Durán. This appears to be one of those scenarios in which the club is looking for the first halfway decent offer and then is more than willing to go from there. Without necessarily taking the initial buying price in mind, for Al Nassr, it appears to be more of a priority to wipe the slate clean and start again fresh in a different direction for the upcoming season.

Potential future Aston Villa return remains

This leads to the question as to how realistic a Villa reunion could be. Initially, for the immediate future, that is a completely unrealistic possibility, seeing as it appears all parties have already come to terms. The question could come up again for Durán's next move.

At 21, the South American is not even close to entering his prime yet. Depending on how things go at Fenerbahçe, the price could go down even further, and the path back to Villa would become that much more plausible. Being, in effect, released from a club can humble someone. Having it happen consecutively only makes it that much more so. There is a lot that will need to happen, but his eventual return to B6 should not be dismissed out of hand later on.
