This has not been exactly an easy summer for Aston Villa supporters. There have been moments, though, throughout the preseason in which Unai Emery's side have shown the quality from how they ended this latest campaign.

Replacing Ollie Watkins during the second half in the preseason friendly against Nashville SC, the attacker found himself on the receiving end of a pass inside the box from Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba.

The clinical ability of Malen was on full display yet again as he found the far corner for a goal that ended up being enough to give Villa the 2-2 draw as they wrapped up their U.S. tour.

Malen offers Villa a lot of versatility. He is someone who can play up time or be lined up in a wide area and provide the last bit of quality needed for someone to put the ball in the back of the net

Increased role for Aston Villa

During this past season, many wanted to see more of Malen. When looking at how the summer transfer window has gone for Villa, it is safe to assume that a larger role will be expected of him for the 2025-2026 season. Already, while Villa have been in the United States, the Dutchman has not only made a number of significant contributions in the attack, but he has also seen time on the pitch that matches the expectations that many Villa fans are hoping to see at this point.

Malen is special in that he seemingly has the ability to produce and make something special happen at all times. In an era that is becoming increasingly tactical, Malen continues to show the ability to break down defenses and make incredible plays happen through the run of play through his talent and instincts on the pitch.
