There aren't any two ways about it. Aston Villa faced and lost to a PSG team that is the most in-form side in Europe at the moment. After advancing against the Premier League winner, Liverpool, the already-clinched Ligue 1 champions put on an impressive display in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
Prince William, however, seemingly perfectly prophesied the challenge that Luis Enrique would pose for Villa. Footage released by Football on TNT Sports showed the known AVFC supporter accurately breaking down PSG's approach before the match had even happened.
He noted the high press and how the young squad, without an all-out superstar like Kylian Mbappé, actually posed a more dangerous threat to their opposition. William also mentioned the need for Villa to deal with the high pressure on their end. This ultimately proved to be too much for Unai Emery's men to handle in Parc des Princes.
Both aspects that William mentioned in his pre-match commentary proved to be 100% spot on. PSG never gave Villa a chance to even hope to gain a foothold in the game. Seemingly each time they lost possession, the hosts had one or two more bodies in the immediate area and were able to almost immediately dispossess the visitors.
Then, the combined efforts of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Vitinha, to name a few, showed that this team that once had Messi and Neymar is actually stronger with their current nucleus. For neutrals, it has a hugely impressive performance by the French champions. For Villa fans, it was a night that began with a lot of excitement and hope that soon turned into a disaster.
How an Aston Villa turnaround could happen
Now faced with a two-goal gap, Villa know what to expect. While William mentioned AVFC often being comfortable in inviting pressure, they will need to play with more urgency when PSG sends numbers forward. Particularly when switching possession, the Villans will need to be quicker in the counterattack and at least get past the initial wave better.
Some are still holding out for a miracle. Certainly, the deficit isn't insurmountable. Either way, in order to at least have a better showing, Emery knows what his group will need to improve on in order to not be outclassed again. A lot of what William said before the first leg will still be true for Aston Villa at Villa Park on Tuesday.
