Already having won the Yashin Trophy twice during back-to-back years, Aston Villa's Emiliano Martínez has been nominated yet again for the award. Given at the Ballon d'Or ceremony, the Argentina international is in a great position to potentially win the distinction for a third year running.

This should show, once again, how incredibly talented and spectacular Martínez is as a keeper. Even during a season in which his play was not as readily highlighted compared to prior campaigns, the Argentine continues to be a consistent, top presence between the posts.

Among some of the other nominees, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Alisson Becker, and David Raya are included on the list.

Set to take place on September 22, the award selection could conceivably see Martínez win this distinction for a third time. When looking at how the Argentina international continues to perform, his status as the world's number one should not be up for debate.

Certainly Donnarumma is coming off a great campaign for PSG. There is an element of his heroics being diluted to an extent due to the nature of the Ligue 1 side choosing to move on from him. Thinking of what would happen if Villa wanted to even consider moving on from 'Dibu' is fairly difficult to imagine. This is at least true in terms of the performance aspects.

Different situation for Aston Villa keeper

There have been, of course, many reports throughout the summer indicating that Martínez would be gone from Villa. It is safe to say that it was not something that initially stemmed from Villa's perspective. At least not on the pitch. The potential move would have been entirely for financial reasons, meaning PSR.

Contrast that with PSG, and the French club appears all too willing to move on from Donnarumma when not needing to. They are instead opting for a young, emerging option in Lucas Chevalier, who is also nominated for the Yashin Trophy.
