While the Aston Villa season did not end the way supporters would have liked, there were great performances throughout the year from the squad. Matty Cash at right back proved to be a key AVFC member.

Cash is the type of athlete where it is instantly noticeable when he is not on the pitch. From his 90-minute effort, tracking down the opposing wide attackers, and providing pinpoint through balls, the Villan is someone who has left a positive mark on the season.

Playing for the Polish international team, the defender has earned another call-up under Michał Probierz. Poland will take on Moldova for a friendly fixture on June 6th. They will then head to Helsinki Olympic Stadium to face Finland in a World Cup qualifier on June 10th.

Currently sitting atop Group G, Poland is in a prime position to earn direct passage to the 2026 World Cup in North America next year. They are also competing for a WC spot with Malta, Lithuania, and the Netherlands .

With the Dutch yet to play due to the Nations League, Poland could still lose ground, but two matches in for the rest of the group, it's Cash's side with the advantage of the full amount of six points at the moment.

What the Aston Villa defender brings through his skill set

For Cash it is another opportunity to represent Poland on the international stage. To this date, he has 17 caps and will look to continue to not only feature but also push the national team toward its desire to play on the big stage in 2026.

The Villa defender is certainly someone who offers that needed edge and can provide the service that breaks down opposing backlines. Particularly at the international level, where the pride of fighting for one's country can play a factor in tightly contested affairs, it only takes one moment sometimes that ends up proving to be the difference between making the World Cup or not. Fortunately for Poland, they have someone on the roster in Cash who can deliver in those types of spots.
