Players recognize what a teammate can provide to the squad. In the case of Marco Asensio, since joining Aston Villa on loan from PSG earlier, the Spaniard has had a great showing of himself and given the attack a significant presence.
At his best, Asensio can create chances and set up the fellow Villans in a way that others can't. Everyone who has ever played dreams of being able to produce fantastic moments on the pitch that inspire. Few are ever in a position to do so. Even fewer than that have the needed skill set to make that become a reality.
Birmingham Live's John Townley shared on X that Pau Torres is optimistic that an agreement can be reached between Villa and PSG to extend his countryman's stay in B6. The defender pointed out how much quality Asensio provides by being in the squad. He, like the club, sees how valuable the PSG midfielder has become to Unai Emery's side in such a short amount of time.
At 29, Asensio is only now entering the prime of his career. More importantly, his fit in the Emery system and how he has contributed to Villa are aspects that would only improve with a full preseason and an additional year at the club.
Let the Aston Villa boss figure it out
There is still a question of how someone like Morgan Rogers would fit on the side. One thing is for certain, though. It is better to have a lot of good options to choose from than not. The question arises of what to do for the bigger, more significant matches.
Give Emery time, and the players, like Asensio and the Villa boss, will find a way to figure it out. He, like every manager, has had certain selections not work out. That is part of the nature of the sport. More often than not, however, Emery will put everyone in the best possible position to help Villa achieve a result on the given day.
