There will always be disagreement among Aston Villa supporters. For some, certain players just need to be shown the door, while others will insist that such critics are being too harsh.
One player who received nearly, if not outright, universal praise is Youri Tielemans. The Belgium international was selected as the club's Player of the Year.
While speaking with Birmingham Live's John Townley, Tielemans spoke on how he viewed himself and his string of performances from this past season.
According to the midfielder, he felt stronger throughout the campaign. For someone playing in the midfield role, this is a great sign. Many at the position find their legs begin to fall off, roughly with a third of the season left. While the willingness and desire may still be there, once the body hits a certain point, it can be nearly impossible for someone to find their form if something from this aspect happens that affects the players.
To Tielemans' point, he played most of the matches, often going 90 minutes. He did miss some action due to an injury concern. That is the case for everyone at some point, however. It is incredibly rare for someone to go through a season without something bothering them and putting their status in jeopardy.
Potential added benefit for Aston Villa midfielder
Now looking to regain his form and lead the charge of the center of the park, Tielemans knows what his best form can look like. While speaking with Townley, though, the Belgian expressed the desire to improve and build on what he was able to accomplish individually with the team.
Part of that could actually involve Tielemans playing fewer minutes and maybe even purposely sitting out a couple more matches. This opportunity presents itself that much more if Unai Emery sticks with the 4-4-2 when looking at the available midfielder options. Either way, Tielemans appears ready to face any and all challenges.
