It is not often that a player who comes off the bench and does not produce a goal or assist receives wild acclaim. This was the case, however, for Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins.

Unai Emery made certain to spell out his pleasure in the England international's contributions against Tottenham Hotspur despite not starting and coming on for Donyell Malen.

Even so, the Villa boss was highly pleased with Watkins and his play in limited time against Spurs. It is not often that a manager will be sure to sing such high praises for someone who does not directly contribute to a goal effort. In the case of Watkins, though, it is important to acknowledge the comfort level and fit that were apparent during his latest stint for Villa.

After all, the England international was forced to come back to B6 early due to an injury concern. To see Watkins able to take the field so shortly after such a designation and to provide a positive impact only speaks to the overall ability and perseverance of the England international.

The Villa boss may continue to exercise caution when it comes to Watkins and reintroducing him into his regular role. So long as Watkins continues to play well and show enhanced levels of play, he is likely to gain his spot back in the Villa starting XI and make a case to have a similar role for Thomas Tuchel in the upcoming international affairs. He will simply need to keep up his current progress from this latest setback.
