The imminent loan move of Leon Bailey from Aston Villa to AS Roma comes as an aspect that the club needs to do. It is a sad reality, but Villa has to do certain things that they would not otherwise in order to be in compliance with SCR and PSR. While this past season has seen the Jamaica international not quite have the role that was desired, the 2023-2024 campaign saw him have a massive role on the side that ended up qualifying for Champions League.

The impact that Bailey had while at Villa cannot be overlooked. He has done well in the claret and blue and provided the needed boost in the attack that ultimately helped the side to achieve its goals and be in a position to go far on the largest European stage.

Now with an agreement in place to join AS Roma with the option for the club to buy, most likely, Bailey has played his last at Villa Park as a member of Unai Emery's side.

The way in which Bailey helped Villa at a critical time of the club's history came as the side needed his contributions in order to make it into Champions League.

Circumstances at Aston Villa

Unfortunately, the way the rules are set up makes it so that Villa will always have to make moves that are forced that likely would not be considered if it were not for the current guidelines in place.

In the case of Bailey, it did look like he would have struggled to find a solidified spot in the matchday squad. Now with his wage amount off the books, this should allow Villa enough room to operate more similarly to the rest of the Premier League. For the winger, Bailey will get the chance to have regular minutes in Serie A and be a regular member of the starting XI.
