In a wave of rumors surrounding the club, Aston Villa have been linked with Barcelona winger Ferran Torres. The Spaniard could be eyeing a return to England after leaving Manchester City in December 2021.
With Barcelona heavily in debt, the club is looking to pawn off some players to crawl out of their poor financial situation. Torres has been a bench player for Xavi’s squad this season, and a return to England would guarantee minutes for the 23-year-old.
Barca are reportedly asking for €45 million in the transfer, a total nearly ten million euros less than what they purchased him for. He’s scored four goals in La Liga this season and scored two goals in the 2022 FIFA World Cup for Spain.
Ferran Torres reportedly wishes to stay in Barcelona next season
With Aston Villa expected to announce the appointment of Mateu Alemany, the sporting director at F.C. Barcelona, expect the Villans to target many players in La Liga. Torres is reportedly keen to stay at the Camp Nou, but with the financial status of the club, it may be difficult to retain him.
Alemany recently announced that he is leaving the Catalan club next month, and Aston Villa have offered him a tremendous salary. “They put an astronomical salary on the table,” said Barcelona economic VP Eduard Romeo, “And, on top of that, they give him a blank checkbook. It’s very hard to say no.”
The former Barcelona sporting director will take control of Aston Villa at the end of the season, and the Spaniard will work alongside Unai Emery and club owners to prepare the team to contend for a top spot in the Premier League in the 2023/24 campaign.
