Aston Villa announced on Tuesday that the club signed Jacob Ramsey to a new deal through 2027.
A Birmingham native and a product of the Aston Villa Academy, the 20-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season in B6, scoring six Premier League goals in 30 appearances.
“It’s a proud moment for me, especially for my family,” Ramsey told VillaTV. “I’ve been here a long time now, come through the Academy, and to sign for another five years at this club, I’m over the moon.”
Ramsey has been a mainstay in manager Steven Gerrard’s three-man midfield, sharing the space with John McGinn and Douglas Luiz.
Gerrard, who Ramsey has modeled his game after, said of the England under-23 in February: “He is a top talent, I’m loving every moment of working with him. He is getting stronger with each game because we’re giving him the platform to express himself. He is in a wonderful place.”
Ramsey made his Aston Villa debut as a 17-year-old substitute in a EFL Championship defeat to West Brom on February 19, 2019. He went on to earn Villa’s Academy Player of the Year honors at the end of the campaign.
After promotion to the Premier League, Ramsey failed to make a league cameo in 2019-20, but a strong preseason paved the way for the midfielder to make 20 PL appearances in 2020-21.
He scored his first goal for Villa on October 21, 2021 at Arsenal, and his first Villa Park goal on Januray 15, 2022 against Manchester United.
Ramsey’s successes this year have placed him firmly in the England national team conversation, with Gareth Southgate saying in March that Ramsey was “pushing some of the older players in group.”
