Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn was selected as Scotland’s Player of the Year on Thursday.

The honor caps a memorable 2021 for McGinn who, in addition to powering Villa to an 11th-place finish in the 2020-21 Premier League season, featured for the Tartan Army in their first European Championship appearance since 1996.

McGinn scored four times for Scotland in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification, including this wonder strike in a crucial win over Israel on October 9.

Villa’s midfield mainstay will led Scotland in a World Cup Play-off tie against Ukraine in March with a place at the World Cup on the line.

McGinn’s selection as Player of the Year came via a public vote by supporters.
