Could the Aston Villa and Milwaukee Bucks owner enjoy a month of magic from his two teams?

On Wednesday night the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Boston Celtics in five games to advance to the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals. The team now awaits the victor between the Toronto Raptors and the Philadelphia 76ers in the other semi-final – a penultimate Game 7 Sunday evening.

Who was at Game 5 between the Bucks and Celtics? None other than 1/2 of the Aston Villa majority ownership group (NSWE), Wes Edens. Sporting a Villa shirt no less! – and seated next to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and former IndyCar driver Danica Patrick.

Edens’ analytically-minded Bucks finished with the NBA’s best record at 60-22. Led by superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and a deep, versatile supporting cast, the Bucks are on the precipice of a second league championship for the franchise.

What makes the above picture so great? Villa apparel aside, it shows an owner who remains invested emotionally in the team they partly control. It is always a morale-booster for supporters when owner passion pours over at a game. For many franchises/clubs, those who control the purse-strings hide seasons at a time behind closed doors, refusing to appear publicly whether it be at games, on radio, or being active on social media.

And, while it is within their rights to do so, it leaves the common fan frustrated when visions are not publicly stated and/or things go sour with the team. The perfect example of this? When Randy Lerner owned Aston Villa.

So, that’s that.

It’s a good time to be Wes Edens. He and Nassef Sawiris made the trek to Villa Park on Saturday for the club’s 2-1 victory over West Brom in the first-leg.

Tuesday at the Hawthorns should be interesting. Albion will be without star striker Dwight Gayle after he received two bookings on Saturday, whereas Villa manager Dean Smith has a full squad to choose from.
