Aston Villa’s devastatingly efficient duo picked-up more accolades as the season draws closer to its end.

Villa midfielder Jack Grealish was named in the Pro Footballers’ Association Championship Team of the Year on Wednesday, joining teammate centre-forward Tammy Abraham as the club’s two winners. The award, voted by fellow players in the EFL Championship, recognizes the pair’s incredible attacking number in the lineup together.

This season, Grealish and Abraham accumulated 31 goals and 9 assists across ~5,500 league minutes as the club clawed itself back into the play-off zone.

With ten wins on the bounce (and hopefully counting), it has been a thrilling time to be a supporter.

Joining the Villa pair is Middlesbrough ‘keeper Darren Randolph in net, Norwich City fullbacks Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis, Leeds’ centre-back pairing Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson, Oliver Norwood and Pablo Hernandez joining Jack in midfield, plus Teemu Pukki and Billy Sharp up front.

Unfortunately, there was no room for John McGinn in the team after a terrific season.

But when there just three places for 24 clubs, snubs are bound to happen. Who knows, had Tyrone Mings and/or James Chester played full seasons, perhaps they would have been inclusions as well.

Notably, Grealish and Abraham are the first Aston Villa players selected to PFA TotY since 2009/2010 (!), when Richard Dunne and James Milner made the Premier League team.

Others elected that year? Didier Drogba, Joe Hart (at Blues), Darren Fletcher and Wayne Rooney.

Talk about a blast from the past.

Villa have just two matches remaining as Dean Smith’s men travel to Elland Road on Sunday and host the Canaries the following weekend. Barring the unusual, the club will play rivals West Bromwich Albion in a home-and-home matchup in the play-off semi-finals.
