Albert Adomah’s dramatic extra-time winner ensured three points went to the visitors on Saturday.

Oh, what a Saturday afternoon for Aston Villa Football Club.

Villa’s dramatic, chaotic stoppage-time goals lifted the club three points clear inside the play-off zone. Coupled with draws from Bristol City and Derby County, things are looking pretty for the claret and blue faithful.

But it didn’t start that way. Wednesday’s opening goal came early from striker Gary Hooper. Winger George Boyd found space down Villa’s right flank, cut inside, and found Hooper for the tap-in. John McGinn found the equalizer not long after Dean Smith’s side took control until the break but came out sluggish thereafter. Wednesday dominated the entirety of the second-half.

However, Albert Adomah and Tammy Abraham had the last laughs as Villa won 3-1.

7.0. SAVED a crucial penalty in the second-half, but had some bad moments as well in claiming crosses. Steer is what I’d call a high-floor, low-ceiling goalkeeper.. GK. Aston Villa. JED STEER

5.0. Had a few forays into the attack that aided Villa’s attack. However, he got caught out for Hooper’s goal and was generally lackluster defending 1 v. 1 situations.. RB. Aston Villa. AHMED ELMOHAMADY

6.0. Three clearances until his exit in the 53rd-minute from injury.. RCB. Aston Villa. KORTNEY HAUSE

His great moments were brilliant and his poor moments were woeful. In total, Tyrone Mings was excellent, even with a few defensive errors.. LCB. Aston Villa. TYRONE MINGS. 7.0

LB. Aston Villa. NEIL TAYLOR. 6.5. Unheralded strong performance from Neil Taylor. One key pass, 80% passing and Adam Reach in check.

Aston Villa. GLENN WHELAN. 6.0. Admirable job from Glenn Whelan. 84% passing on 58 touches with three total tackles. I thought Wednesday were able to get around him a little too easily, though.. CDM

7.0. Quiet day from Jack until the final moments when he created Villa’s winning goal. Steve Bruce’s side did a really good job cutting him off in midfield. WhoScored registered four key passes.. CM. Aston Villa. JACK GREALISH

Aston Villa. JOHN MCGINN. 7.0. A well-taken goal from John McGinn sees him score his 4th in 4 appearances. He did well to disrupt Wednesday offensively and defensively.. CM

Aston Villa. ANDRE GREEN. 6.0. Only had 25 touches in 70 minutes, but I thought Andre Green acquitted himself fairly well. He was the key cog in Villa’s opening goal with an assist.. RW

WhoScored gave him an 8+, and though most of his game won’t show up in a stat box, I don’t think he was quite that good. Tammy scored a late, late goal with a nice finish inside the box.. CF. Aston Villa. TAMMY ABRAHAM. 6.5

6.0. El Ghazi had his moments in the attack. Overall, a solid-average two-way performance.. LW. Aston Villa. ANWAR EL GHAZI
