Aston Villa Points Predictor: April 2019
By Clayton Nass
I couldn’t be happier than ever to announce that I, Clay, was incorrect in my previous month’s prediction of 11 points earned from 15. 5 OUT OF 5 MATCHES WON IN MARCH. What are the chances that this run of form continues? Find out in this month’s Aston Villa points predictor.
Aston Villa at Sheffield Wednesday
“..Reunited and it feels so goooood!” The first ever Cabbage Patch Darby will kick off the April Campaign for the Villans. The stadium should be buzzing, especially after the club announced that they had been granted an additional allotment of tickets for the match:
A heavy Villa presence will be necessary to help the boys break through what will likely be a Bruce-ian stone wall from Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls have been in solid form since the February takeover by Steve Bruce, seeing the side concede 6 times in 11 league matches. This included two clean sheets against capable attacking sides Sheffield United and Brentford. However, it would be impossible to overlook Aston Villa’s brilliant run of form as well. This is a difficult game to read, as Steve Bruce could be hungry for the W, and subsequently push his players forward, resulting in a potentially chaotic 4-2 match. Or, he could elect to park the bus for 75 minutes and say: “come and get us”. I think the former actually bodes well for Sheffield IF they are playing for 3 points. They have a brutal schedule coming in and imagine they will push to win matches such as this. Villa will concede to Steven Fletcher and Adam Reach, but it wont be enough. 3-2 Villa in another cracking match.

Aston Villa at Rotherham United
Believe it or not, this is the match that kind of scares me. A mid-week away match against a side that is playing with their back against the wall. Yes, they were just beaten 6-1 by Derby, but that was a far more lopsided scoreline than the ticker might have indicated. The Millers are going to come out swinging, and don’t be surprised if one of those punches lands before Villa can get themselves into the game. This might be a blessing in disguise for Aston Villa. This side is undoubtedly at their best when they can be the aggressor. The bear (lion) will awaken, and prey upon the hapless Rotherham defense. I will say 2-1 Villa, but this comes with an asterisk. I think if Aston Villa score first, this has the makings of a match that could end up 1-1.

Aston Villa vs Bristol City
This is the biggest match of the month. It may very well decide which of these two teams finish in the top 6 come the conclusion of the regular season. Unfortunately, I have no handle on Bristol at all. They lose 2-3 away to Norwich, 0-1 at home to Leeds, but win 3-2 away to Sheffield United. That seems like we’re basically just flipping a coin and hoping that the “good” version of Bristol doesn’t show up for this match. Luckily for Villa, this will be Bristol’s 4th match in under two weeks, and I think the tired legs will have a say in this one. Bristol will hang around, but falter a few times late, conceding twice after the 70′ mark. 2-0, Villa

Aston Villa at Bolton
Just take care of business here. Bolton have not performed well at all against top-tier opposition. Their club is in the midst of financial turmoil. They are very likely getting relegated. Take. Care. Of. Business. (Hint: They will) 2-0, Villa.

Aston Villa vs Millwall
Despite it being at home, this is another one of those weird scary trap-games. At the time of this article, Millwall are not in great form. They open April with West Brom, QPR, Sheffield United, and Brentford, before the trip to Villa Park. That might spell doom for them, or it could spell “WE NEED TO WIN THIS MATCH AGAINST VILLA, NOW!” I think this is going to be a very aggressively contested match that breaks the streak for Villa. Scrappy 1-1 draw with a controversial call that decides the match late.
April Points: 13
Total Points: 73
Aston Villa at Leeds
This is a tricky one to predict, as Leeds might have top-2 wrapped up by this point, or be safely in 3rd with no chance at 2nd. Let’s assume that Leeds still have something to play for, which dramatically swings the pendulum in their favor. I would be okay with a draw in this one. Just get everyone out of Leeds healthy, without cards, and a position still in the top 6. 1-2 loss, but one that’s acceptable.
April Points: 13
Total Points: 73
Sitting on 73 points at the end of April would be incredible given where the club were at just two months prior. I would think that 73 at the end of April would place the club in 6th place, with a win-and-in scenario the following weekend. This is the EFL Championship though. Anything can happen. For now, keep racking up W’s and let the rest sort itself out. UTV
