An indifferent, sleeting evening at Villa Park.

GK. Aston Villa. ORJAN NYLAND. 7.0. Excellent rebound match from Villa’s No. 1 ‘keeper. Nyland made a pair of solid saves inside ten minutes. Only one real communication issue as he and Axel Tuanzebe barreled into each other. Nearly got to Afobe’s penalty, too.

Yikes, Elmohamady was not very good. The second-half, in particular, was abysmal. He conceded the penalty that nearly gave Stoke City three points. His attacking contributions were limited to just being a passing outlet.. RB. Aston Villa. AHMED ELMOHAMADY. 3.5

6.5. Six aerial duels won and an above-average performance commanding the ball.. CB. Aston Villa. AXEL TUANZEBE

Aston Villa. JAMES CHESTER. 6.5. Gets a small bump for covering for Alan Hutton most of the afternoon – 92% passing completion.. CB

Aston Villa. ALAN HUTTON. 4.5. Hutton might see Tom Ince in his nightmares. However, the Scottish Cafu got forward fairly well despite playing on his less favored side.. LB

Aston Villa. GLENN WHELAN. 5.5. Solid, if a bit anonymous. Whelan played the critical pass on Villa’s late equalizer. Still would have liked to see Callum O’Hare late on though…. CDM

5.5. Set-pieces left a lot to be desired, but Hourihane once again cycled the ball efficiently (a few errant passes mixed in). Played a little No. 10 and a little No. 6.. CM. Aston Villa. CONOR HOURIHANE

6.5. WhoScored didn’t love his play, but I thought McGinn was really important to the draw. He was the victim of several poor refereeing decisions, too.. CM. Aston Villa. JOHN MCGINN

5.0. Gets the critical bump for an all-important equalizing assist, but Yannick Bolasie did not impress in the slightest. He has to be a little cleaner on the ball.. LW/RW. Aston Villa. YANNICK BOLASIE

El Ghazi, too, had several calls not go his way, but he was an attacking threat in the first-half. Anonymous after the break and replaced by Jonathan Kodjia, Aston Villa’s Man-of-the-Match.. RW/LW. Aston Villa. ANWAR EL GHAZI. 5.5

7.0. Cool, calm, and collected with Aston Villa’s penalty goal. Tammy Abraham did very well for most of the match.. CF. Aston Villa. TAMMY ABRAHAM
