Ireland manager Martin O’Neill resigned earlier this week and the search for a new gaffer has already gotten underway in the Dublin based offices…

Ireland’s Football Association now has a task on its hands and that is to install a new coach. Thankfully, they have over three months to do so given that there will be no international fixtures until March. However, the Irish officials are looking to bring somebody in as soon as possible and feasible for them.

Former Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill vacated his position at the helm following Ireland’s 0-0 stalemate away against Denmark in their fixture corresponding to the sixth match day of the UEFA Nations League. That meant that the Irish were relegated into the second group of the competition. Martin O’Neill’s departure also saw his assistant manager Roy Keane leaving his post.

Now that they have to appoint a successor, Ireland’s officials are hoping that two former Aston Villa coaches can do them a favor by accepting the managerial offer. Former Wolves’ manager Mick McCarthy is being considered as the front runner to this post and has been discusses as the odds-on favorite to manager Ireland.

Steven Bruce who was sacked by Aston Villa last month is being backed as the second most favorable choice. The 57 year old is priced at an odd of 20/1 to be the successor of Martin O’Neill.

The third and final name on Ireland’s list is that of Tim Sherwood. The gaffer has been without a job for the last three years after being fired by Aston Villa. Bookies consider him as the least prioritized target with odds of 100/1.

How do you think will be the new Ireland manager?
