Aston Villa will look to build upon their squad in January to boost chances of qualifying into the Premier League at the end of this season.

Aston Villa installed Dean Smith’s services some weeks ago and the 47 year old is bidding to turn the club’s fortunes by helping them in becoming contenders for a qualification to the Premier League. The Clarets and Blues are currently 14th in the Championship and will have to tinker with their team a little bit if they are to make a surge into the top flight of English football.

As a result, they have shortlisted Ed Williams, who is currently in the accounts of non-league outfit Kidderminster Harriers. Williams has already gotten on the scoresheet on ten occasions this season for the Harriers who are in a position for the play-offs of the National League North. In addition to his exploits with Kidderminster, Ed has also been called up by England’s C team.

Having developed in the ranks of Cheltenham, his hometown club, Ed Williams signed for Kidderminster Harriers in the past summer from Gloucester City. His impressive performances have already turned a corner and he is being scouted by some of the second tier club’s across England, the most prominent names being those of Leeds United and Derby County. Aston Villa are the latest candidates for his services.

The Rams and the Peacocks are in a challenging place and could push for Premier League qualification in the business end of the season, whereas the Villains could as well if they can continue their basked home form whilst on the road. In terms of necessity, the Villa Park outlet needs the help of a goal scoring midfielder like Ed Williams, but it remains to be seen who the 23 year old will prefer after formal approaches from his suitors.
