Aston Villa Loan Report: October 2018, Mitch Clark is awesome
By Josh Tonti
It was a busy another month for Aston Villa players away on-loan. What did October have to offer and who impressed?
GK – Jed Steer, 26, Charlton Athletic
Appearances: 5
Clean Sheets: 1
To no one’s surprise, Jed Steer has comfortably taken over starting goalkeeper duties at Charlton. Steer played the full 90 minutes in 5 League One matches, keeping one clean sheet. It was a tough month, however, for the club, with 1 win, 1 draw, and 3 losses.
CM – Gary Gardner, 26, Birmingham City
Appearances: 5
Goals: 1
Yellow Cards: 2
Gary Gardner was simply outstanding for Blues in October. He scored once in Birmingham’s 2-1 victory over Reading. He produced WhoScored ratings of 7.0 or higher in 4 of 5 contests. The other was a 6.9.
CB – Easah Suliman, 20, FC Emmen
Appearances: (1)
Still on the outside looking in, in the Eredivisie. Suliman played two minutes as a substitute back on the 20th. Emmen was hammered by PSV Eindhoven 6-0. It’s a worrying trend for Suliman’s development.
LB/RB/CB – Mitch Clark, 19, Port Vale
Appearances: 8
Mitch Clark is awesome, and he’s making waves at Port Vale. He played eight matches in October, lasting 90 minutes in 7 of them. It’s but one reason he’s attracting Premier League interest.
CM – Aaron Tshibola, 23, Kilmarnock
Appearances: 4
Goals: 1
Aaron Tshibola is a steady starter in Scotland. He scored against St. Mirren back on the 20th.
CF – Kelsey Mooney, 19, Cheltenham Town
Appearances: (3)
Not a great month from a minutes perspective, but at least Kelsey Mooney is involved at Cheltenham Town. He made 3 substitute appearances totaling 75 minutes and 1 yellow card.
AM/CF – Ross McCormack, 32, Central Coast Mariners
Appearances: 2
Goals: 1
Ross McCormack restarted his career in Australia with another goal – this time vs. Melbourne City (the club he played for last spring). Unfortunately, his club was not able to come to terms with former Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt on a contract.
RB/LB/CB – Ritchie De Laet, 29, Melbourne City
Appearances: 2
Goals: 1
Ritchie De Laet scored in the Australian A-League! It was a 2-1 victory over Melbourne Victory.
