According to a few trustworthy reports making rounds, Laurent Koscielny is a rumored target for Aston Villa for the January transfer business!

Arsenal star Laurent Koscielny has had a year to forget after having it marred by injuries since a long time. The former France international fell out of favor under his final months alongside Arsene Wenger and is yet to make even a single appearance under the regimes of Unai Emery.

The 33 year old suffered an injury in Arsenal’s UEFA Europa League semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid in the 2017/18 season, which ruled him out indefinitely. In spite of returning to training a few weeks ago, Koscielny is not going to rushed in the Arsenal squad and probably does not even have a future in the team.

Rob Holding has managed to establish himself in the starting eleven on regular occasions at the Emirates Stadium while Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi have been pretty reliable in the recent months in the heart of the backline. As a result, the Gunners will not stop Koscielny from looking for new pastures in January.

In the summer, the defender was linked with a move to Marseille but things failed to formulate and Laurent was forced into staying in north London. However, reports have now claimed that there is serious interest from the Championship and Aston Villa have emerged as shock contenders for the 33 year old.

A loan move to the Villa Park seems like a sensible option keeping in mind that the Frenchman’s mammoth sized wage could be unaffordable for Aston Villa and end up messing up their entire financial structure. While the concrete details about the move are yet to be revealed, both parties could be at a profit.

While Laurent Koscielny would get considerable amounts of playing time under the watchful eyes of Dean Smith, he can also act as a mentor and guiding force for the other inexperienced and unexposed players in the team. In addition to that, Kosc’s presence on the pitch will bring a sense of security and calm in Villa team because of his experience and technique.
