It was a solid home debut for new Aston Villa manager Dean Smith.

Nyland produced 4 registered saves, and each was more important than the last. Distribution was woeful, however.. GK. Aston Villa. ORJAN NYLAND. 8.0

6.0. Alan Hutton kept Swansea forward Barrie McKay in check for the entirety of the match.. RB. Aston Villa. ALAN HUTTON

9.0. Man of the Match, in my opinion. James Chester made 10 clearances and forced 2 interceptions. Oh, and he completed 97% of his passes.. CB. Aston Villa. JAMES CHESTER

AXEL TUANZEBE. 7.0. Solid and never put a wrong foot in, Axel Tuanzebe was the quieter centre-half. The Manchester United loanee helped keep Oliver McBurnie uninvolved.. CB. Aston Villa

7.0. Neil Taylor was reintroduced to the starting lineup under Dean Smith. And quietly, he was very, very good. When he’s stout defensively he brings so much more balance to Aston Villa compared to right footers Alan Hutton or James Bree.. LB. Aston Villa. NEIL TAYLOR

BIRKIR BJARNASON. 7.0. Birkir Bjarnason was a MONSTER in the first-half and a bit careless after the break. His performance gives Smith something to think about when it comes to midfield alignment going forward.. CM. Aston Villa

CM. Aston Villa. JOHN MCGINN. 8.0. Take a bow, John McGinn. What a performance from the Scotland international. Unfortunately he is suspended for Tuesday’s match in Norwich for an accumulation of yellow cards.

7.5. Glides effortlessly through the middle of the park. Jack Grealish really should have scored at least once. He ended on 93% passing, 1 key pass, and 4 total shots.. CAM. Aston Villa. JACK GREALISH

Aston Villa. AHMED ELMOHAMADY. 6.5. Assisted Tammy Abraham’s first-half header. It was a good shift for Elmo as he was replaced by Yannick Bolasie on the 63rd-minute. He too, was pretty good.. RW

Aston Villa. TAMMY ABRAHAM. 7.0. Tammy Abraham is going to score 20+ goals this season under Dean Smith, playing time and health permitting. He honestly had 4-5 glorious scoring opportunities in this one. Combination play was a little too sloppy today.. CF

6.5. The only thing missing in Adomah’s arsenal on Saturday was a smidgen of lethal play. He was too hesitant on the counter when he reached Swansea’s box. Replaces by Jonathan Kodjia on the 73rd-minute. Fellow winger Anwar El Ghazi was not in the eighteen.. LW. Aston Villa. ALBERT ADOMAH
