It was a busy month for Aston Villa players away on-loan as Jed Steer claimed Charlton’s No. 1 goalkeeping job.

The collective 7 Aston Villa players representing the clubs away on-loan enjoyed a good month of August. In comparison to previous seasons, more players are leaving their mark than not.

GK – Jed Steer, 26, Charlton Athletic

Appearances: 5

Clean Sheets: 1

It took a few weeks, but Jed Steer claimed the No. 1 ‘keeper position at Charlton. Together, he and team surged up to 9th-place in the EFL League One table. Steer backstopped Charlton to victories over Wycombe, Bradford, and Plymouth, with a draw to Luton as well.

CM – Gary Gardner, 26, Birmingham City

Appearances: 5

Gary Gardner might not be a starter at Aston Villa, but he is entrenched as one at arch-rivals Birmingham City. Gardner played the full 90 minutes in draws with QPR, West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield United, and Ipswich Town. He lasted 58 minutes in Blues’ 2-1 victory over Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.

He was booked once in September with no goals or assists.

CB – Easah Suliman, 20, FC Emmen

Appearances: 1

Easah Suliman finally got some action with FC Emmen. He started at centre-back in a 3-1 Dutch Cup victory over Oostzaan. A few days later, he was named to the bench in an Eredivisie match.

LB/RB/CB – Mitch Clark, 19, Port Vale

Appearances: 5

Mitch Clark continues to be the most impressive Villan away on-loan. 5 more matches, 90 minutes played in all of them. Port Vale collected two wins, two draws, and a loss in those 5 games.

At such a young age, it can not be stated enough how awesome this is for Clark’s development. He could be a serious Aston Villa contributor in a year or two.

CM – Aaron Tshibola, 23, Kilmarnock

Appearances: 4

Aaron Tshibola played 89 minutes or more in 4 of Kilmarnock’s Scottish Premiership matches in the month of September. Impressively, they beat Aberdeen, Celtic, and Motherwell. John McGinn’s former club, Hibs, was the only defeat.

Tshibola collected two yellow cards from his defensive midfield position.

CF – Kelsey Mooney, 19, Cheltenham Town

Appearances: 3 + (1)

Goals: 1

In case you missed it, Kelsey Mooney scored his first professional goal. In a 3-1 victory over Northampton Town, the 19-year old netted in England’s 4th division. He came off as a substitute in a scoreless draw vs. Crewe in the middle of the month. On the 22nd, he played the final 24 minutes in a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Exeter City.

Next Month: Ritchie De Laet and Ross McCormack in Australia

Too soon for our fellow players Down Under.
