It was an evening to forget…

ORJAN NYLAND. 4.5. Made one excellent save and one error as he fumbled a long shot attempt out for a corner. Nyland needs to be way better, in all honesty. 26.7% passing accuracy is down right embarrassing.. GK. Aston Villa

Hutton could not defend to save his life against Adam Armstrong and Bradley Dack. He somehow ended up being Villa’s best attacking midfielder on a couple of occasions, though, as he pounced into midfield when necessary.. RB. Aston Villa. ALAN HUTTON. 4.5

Not shocking at all to see James Chester back to his old self with a more reliable partner.. RCB. Aston Villa. JAMES CHESTER. 6.0

LCB. Aston Villa. AXEL TUANZEBE. 6.0. Tuanzebe fumbled around a few times through inexperience, but he was a clear, clear improvement over Mile Jedinak.

4.5. Just make it until January until a new left-back can be brought in.. LB. Aston Villa. NEIL TAYLOR

CDM. Aston Villa. MILE JEDINAK. 6.5. A workmanlike midfield appearance from the Australian. Jedinak won a lot of aerial duels as always, which probably prevented Villa from conceding on the several set pieces they gave up. He did not have a very good understanding with John McGinn, though.

5.0. Bless Elmo, but he just isn’t an attacking threat from the wing. Or at full-back for that matter.. RM. Aston Villa. AHMED ELMOHAMADY

6.5. You can say this for most Aston Villa games, but the club would be lost if not for Jack Grealish. Ushered the team forward well, but his passing was missing that incisive spark.. CM. Aston Villa. JACK GREALISH

CM. Aston Villa. JOHN MCGINN. 4.5. I’ll say it once, I’ll say it again: John McGinn would be a lot more effective if he played like Jack Grealish and didn’t run at a 100% sprint at every opportunity. Woeful first-half outside of earning a penalty kick that was not called.

A surprise starter, Albert Adomah had a lot of touches in the attacking third, but couldn’t really deliver. Anwar El Ghazi and/or Yannick Bolasie might surpass him on the depth chart, but he still has a major role to play.. LM. Aston Villa. ALBERT ADOMAH. 5.0

5.5. Tammy Abraham looks like the real deal. He combined effectively when given the ball, which was seldom. Like Scott Hogan, both he and the team need to find a way to get him more involved. Abraham had five shots, three-on-target.. CF. Aston Villa. TAMMY ABRAHAM

Special shoutout to Conor Hourihane for the equaling free kick – a delightful strike. All data provided by WhoScored match center.
