Despite the recent League Cup loss, Aston Villa have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the first five games of the Championship campaign. Will that run of form continue? Will the loss to Burton create a concatenation of collapse? Find out in the September edition of  Aston Villa Points Predictor.

Sheffield United vs Aston Villa

Sheffield United are off to a good start. They outplayed Swansea week 1 and lost. Middlesbrough beat them 3-0, but the match wasn’t as lopsided as the score sheet indicated. They have won 3 out of their last 3 league matches. Villa have drawn 3 of 3, but padded their points with two early season W’s. This is two solid teams going at it, but precedence has to be given to both the home team as well as the team that is in better form. A draw would be a favorable result, but I think this will be the first L for the squad. (We will beat them at home though).

Blackburn vs Aston Villa

Tricky one. Blackburn see themselves above their station on the table thanks to a favorable schedule. (Although something similar could be argued for Aston Villa). A win/draw for Blackburn at Bristol would see them as one of the few remaining unbeaten teams in the Championship. If that is the case, this match could very well be a 1-1 draw, or even a second consecutive loss.

More from Claret Villans

However, if Bristol should knock Blackburn off the horse per-say, that may lead to a more lack-luster performance from the Rovers.  I see this being a game where AV fully unleash their new loan signings in a relentless attack. That coupled with my belief that Bristol will comply; 3 points here for Villa.

Aston Villa vs Rotherham

One might’ve pegged this game for a 5-1 bloodbath after what Brentford did to this Rotherham team on Matchday 1. However, The Millers have played adequately since, scoring in 4/5 matches and winning twice. They’ll find a way through a leaky Villa defense to score a goal. But true to this season’s form Villa will come from behind and score not once, but twice, to secure the three. So that’s 3 more points, bringing our monthly total to 6.

Aston Villa vs Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday’s Adam Reach produced one of the goals of the Championship season last year during this fixture.

Assuming there is no recurring nightmare that is an opposition side taking the lead in the first minute of the game with a fantastic strike, this should be a comfortable victory for Villa. However, we have seen that this season that may not be the case. Assuming the team is in good form as a result of having won the last two, they get the 3 points here.

Bristol City vs Aston Villa

Last but not least is the kind of “must-have” game for a team that is striving for automatic promotion. Bristol should be upper-mid table challenging for top 6 this year as well. Drawing these types of road games is absolutely imperative for AV, as a win is absolutely imperative for Bristol. Oddly enough Bristol have been better away this season, having earned 3 points at QPR and Swansea, respectively. I see this being the best match of the month from a neutral football fan’s perspective. Bristol will need this game as much as Villa. Neither team leaves feeling completely satisfied after splitting the spoils in a hard fought draw. 1 point for Villa here.

Ten points in a September with only five matches would be just fine, and should see Villa remain comfortably in the top 6. This would serve as a primer for the squad to make a run in what appears to be a favorable schedule in the month of October. #UTV
