It’s going to be a busy year for Aston Villa players away on-loan. In total, seven players have joined other clubs from around Europe and the lower levels of England. Let’s recap the month of August.
August was a busy month for Aston Vila players away on loan. Collectively, we saw the incumbent goalkeeper, a plethora of youngsters, and a few ancillary pieces move for more playing time. Let’s recap:
GK – Jed Steer, 25, on-loan at Charlton Athletic:
Appearances: 0
Despite the surprise move to a lower level, goalkeeper Jed Steer has yet to debut with his new club. The 25-year old shot-stopper is currently playing deputy to Dillon Phillips. Charlton fans, however, are clamoring for Steer to be inserted into the starting lineup.
CM – Gary Gardner, 26, on-loan at Birmingham City
Appearances: 4
While Blues have had a rough go at it in recent weeks, Gary Gardner has been a pleasant surprise, starting the club’s last four matches. WhoScored appreciates his contributions, even if the box score is less than exciting.
CB – Easah Suliman, 20, on-loan at FC Emmen (NED)
Appearances: 0
Suliman must be cursed; it’s the only explanation for his lack of professional match-time in various loan spells and with Villa. The England youth international is waiting to make his debut in Holland’s Eredivisie.
LB/RB/CB – Mitch Clark, 19, on-loan at Port Vale
Appearances: 3
Mitch Clark enjoyed a tremendous month at Port Vale. He’s played three matches thus far, debuting at left-back in a clean sheet over Crawley.
CM – Aaron Tshibola, 23, on-loan at Kilmarnock
Aaron Tshibola recently re-joined Scotland side Kilmarnock. He should begin to feature in the next week or so.
LW – André Green, 20, on-loan at Portsmouth
Akin to Aaron Tshibola, André Green recently joined Portsmouth for the season. We look forward to tracking his progression as the year advances.
We should be happy if he succeeds.
CF – Kelsey Mooney, 19, on-loan at Cheltenham Town
In surprising news, leading under-23 scorer Kelsey Mooney departs Villa for Cheltenham Town on a season-long loan. After exploding for three goals in two reserve matches, this will be Mooney’s first taste of senior football.
